Who It’s For

Dental Implants in Long Beach

Dental implants replace missing teeth from the root up. A small post is placed in the jawbone, the bone fuses with it, and a crown or bridge is fixed on top, so your new tooth looks and works much like the one you lost.

An implant may be right for you if:

  • You have lost a tooth to decay, injury or gum disease
  • A tooth is too damaged to save
  • You would rather not reshape healthy teeth to hold a bridge
  • Several teeth are missing and you want them fixed in place

You need healthy gums and enough jawbone to hold the implant. If gum disease is present, we treat it first, and where bone has thinned, bone grafting may rebuild it.

Step by Step

The Dental Implant Process

An implant takes longer than a bridge, because the bone needs time to heal around it. We’ll give you a timeline for your own case at your consultation.

  1. Consultation and 3D Scan

We examine your mouth and take a CBCT scan, a 3D X-ray that shows the height and width of your jawbone and where the nerves and sinuses sit. It lets us plan the implant’s size, angle and position before surgery.

  2. Placing the Implant

The area is numbed, then the implant, a small screw-shaped post, is placed in the jawbone where the root used to be. Some soreness and swelling afterwards is normal, and we’ll tell you how to manage it.

  3. Healing

The bone grows around the implant and fuses with it. This is what makes an implant so stable. How long it takes depends on your bone, and we check how it is healing along the way.

  4. Your New Tooth

Once the implant is secure, we attach a connector, called an abutment, and fit a custom crown or bridge shaded to match your other teeth.

Look after an implant as you would a natural tooth: brush, floss and keep up your check-ups and cleanings.

Benefits

Why Choose a Dental Implant

Compared with a bridge or a removable denture, an implant

  • leaves the teeth beside the gap untouched,
  • stays fixed in place, with nothing to take out,
  • lets you bite and chew with confidence,
  • and helps preserve the jawbone where the tooth was lost.

With good care, an implant is a long-lasting solution that can give you many years of use. Not sure whether an implant or a bridge suits you better? See crowns and bridges, or ask us at your consultation.
